Difference of Nasal Oxygen Cannula and Oxygen mask

September 26, 2022
The use of nasal oxygen cannula inhalation and oral and  oxygen mask oxygen inhalation are both commonly used clinical methods of receiving oxygen therapy, but there are many differences between the two methods of oxygen inhalation, as follows:

1. The efficacy of clinical oxygen inhalation is not exactly the same. In comparison, the oxygen inhalation concentration that can be obtained by oxygen inhalation with an oxygen mask may be higher than that of oxygen inhalation through a nasal cannula.

2. The oxygen inhalation catheter through the nasal oxygen tube needs to be placed in the nasal cavity, while the oxygen mask oxygen inhalation nasal cavity and oral cavity do not need to place the catheter.

3. Inhalation of oxygen through a nasal oxygen tube has certain requirements on the nasal mucosa. If the nasal mucosa is congested, swollen, or ruptured, it is not suitable to inhale oxygen with a nasal cannula. Oxygen inhalation by an oxygen mask has no effect on the nasal cavity, regardless of whether the oral cavity or nasal cavity is inhaled. If there is a rupture, you can receive oxygen through an oxygen mask.

4. Oxygen inhalation patients with oxygen mask may be affected by drinking water and speech, but oxygen inhalation through nasal oxygen tube does not affect eating, speech, coughing, and expectoration.
